Description
An easy, mostly downhill day. Begin heading southeast from Apache Springs across gently sloping grassland. Enter forest cover and continue downhill, first to the east, then swinging to the south. At about the one mile point, descend the "seven deadly switchbacks" — a conservation project from 2006.
At the bottom of the switchbacks, pick your way through rocks and boulders, then head east along free flowing Agua Fria Creek, crossing the creek periodically, for about 3-1/2 miles. Pass a few stables and cabins as you approach Fish Camp, then cross Agua Fria Creek one more time and check in at Waite Phillips' fishing cabin.
