Description
Summit Mt Phillips (a great place for a scenic breakfast), then begin a steady, often steep, 2-1/2 mile downhill run to Clear Creek — reportedly home of the best tasting water at Philmont. Allow time for touring the Rocky Mountain Fur Company cabin and blackpowder rifle shooting. Then head southeast down Rayado Creek along a gentle, easy trail for about 3 miles to a last small climb and Comanche Creek Camp.
On the Way
Clear Creek is home to the Rocky Mountain Fur Company, tomahawk throwing, and black powder rifle shooting. There is an evening fur trapping presentation, but it's likely you'll want to head toward Comanche Creek before that. Note crews staying at Clear Creek have priority for black powder rifle shooting, so you MAY not be able to participate.
